The figures are sobering, the percentage seems unreal: According to Egypt's ministry of health 1994 estimates, between 70 percent and 90 percent of Egyptian women were circumcised. However, a 2005 report by UNICEF shows that a staggering 97 percent – yes, 97 percent - of Egyptian women between ages 15 and 49 in both rural and urban areas had been circumcised. Circumcisions range from clitoridectomies to almost total removal of the outside genitalia.
Comment: I thought I had read the worst about Islam, and now this! Women in the Islamic world should rise up and put a stop to this.
